Dryer Fire Prevention Safety Tips

Dryer Vent Cleaning

 www.dryersafety.org

  • Have your dryer installed and serviced by a professional.
  • Do not use the dryer without a lint filter.
  • Make sure you clean the lint filter before or after each load of laundry. Remove lint that has collected around the drum.
  • Rigid or flexible metal venting material should be used to sustain proper air flow and drying time.
  • Make sure the air exhaust vent pipe is not restricted and the outdoor vent flap will open when the dryer is operating. Once a year, or more often if you notice that it is taking longer than normal for your clothes to dry, clean lint out of the vent pipe or have a dryer lint removal service do it for you.
  • Keep dryers in good working order. Gas dryers should be inspected by a professional to make sure that the gas line and connection are intact and free of leaks.
  • Make sure the right plug and outlet are used and that the machine is connected properly.
  • Follow the manufacturer’s operating instructions and don’t overload your dryer.
  • Turn the dryer off if you leave home or when you go to bed.

Have the inside of your dryer cleaned every 2 years.

Don’t let this happen to you:

Keep the area around your dryer free of clutter.

Question: Do you know where the lint filter housing is?

This is the part of your dryer where your lint filter slides into (located inside of the door).

If you look down there with a flash light, you will see lint built up.

Look what can happen if it is not cleaned regularly.

Question: What type of Transition duct do you have?

This is the flexible duct that attaches your dryer to the main duct behind your dryer.

Not all transition ducts are the same. They must be UL2158 listed

Have your transition duct upgraded to the latest. greatest material. This duct is the first defense of a spreading fire. It will help contain the fire from spreading to your home.

Rigid pipe is the BEST Material to use, it must be at least 28-gauge metal.

Fire Prevention:

Each month we run a work shop at our new training facility in Spotswood PA.

Our ace technician Ray Muller, who has 20 years’ experience repairing clothes dryers, takes the time to teach all our dryer & chimney cleaning technicians the proper way to take apart the dryer and clean it out.

Cleaning out the inside of your dryer is just as important as the dryer vent itself.

This is the commitment we have in trying to prevent a house fire.
